What we Offer !
DATE: 25 Sep 26
A place to gather, make and slow down.
There are many ways to spend time in the woods. At Embers & Oak, we’re making room for shared adventures, practical skills, good conversations and quieter moments.
Here’s a little of what we offer:
A woodland place for your gathering
Site and venue hire for workshops, celebrations, group days and gatherings. Bring your idea, and let’s see how it might fit among the trees.
Woodland skills & making
Bushcrafty, crafty experiences with natural materials and useful skills. A chance to work with your hands, try something new and enjoy the satisfaction of making something yourself.
Woodlore — learning the lore of the woods
Get to know the trees and the stories they hold. Explore traditional uses, woodland folklore and the everyday skills our ancestors knew—knowledge passed from hand to hand, still waiting to be learnt, practised and shared.
Camping
Stay a little longer. Settle into the woods, watch the light change and wake up to the sounds of the woodland around you.
Talks under the parachute
A place to gather for stories, ideas and good conversation. Come to listen, share what you know or explore something together.
Something we call Shinrin Hōga Kōshin…
Bringing coppicing and forest bathing together: time spent tending the woodland, followed by time to slow down and notice it. Working with our hands, pausing beneath the trees, and getting to know the place a little better.
Care for the woods… and yourself.
More from the woods…
Check back here for upcoming activities, fresh Field Notes and stories of what’s happening in the woods.
Whether you’d like to bring people together, learn a woodland skill, camp beneath the trees or simply spend some time here, we’d love to hear from you.
Embers & Oak
Come and find your place in the woods.

FIELD NOTE: ‘Pot-free’ Woodland Cooking !
DATE: 12 Sep 26
This ‘pot-free’ recipe is great fun, especially with Halloween around the corner !
Scooped out, the pumpkin becomes its own cooking pot. The flesh slowly roasts, while whatever you put inside steams, braises and picks up some smokiness from the fire.
The trick is; NOT to put it over the flames, sit it in a shallow nest of mature embers, ideally with some heat around the sides, and rotate occasionally.
Keep the pumpkin wall pretty thick, so it doesn’t collapse
Pumpkin ‘Pot’ Smokey Beans: Butter beans, chopped tomatoes, onion, garlic, peppers, smoked paprika, herbs and a little chili and in this one, a glug of cider as stock !!

Welcome to Embers & Oak !

Hi all, I’m Mick, the owner of Embers & Oak.
Not that one ‘Owns’ a wood, I am merely the Custodian or Guardian for a time ! This wood has been here long.. long.. long.. before me, and will be here a long.. long.. long.. time after I have gone !
There are trees in this wood believed to be over 500 years old, and it is designated as ancient woodland. That only tells us it has been continuously wooded since at least 1600… my guess is that it was here long… long before that!
I would like to take the opportunity to Welcome you to the website, and if you like what you have seen and read, I’d like to Welcome you to the Woods sometime !
Pop back to this page from time to time, there will be updates on activities being offered and general news from the woods too.
See you soon !
Mick
